Is Puerto Vallarta A Good Place to Live?

Puerto Vallarta has a pleasant, temperate climate all year ‘round with an average temperature of 80°F. During the cool, winter nights, the temperature can drop to a pleasant 60°F.

The rainy season begins at the end of May each year and continues on to mid-October. There is a hurricane “season”which falls in late summer. An interesting rumor that the locals will tell you is that the Sierra Madre actually protects this region from hurricanes. Most years, hurricanes travel toward Vallarta, but the mountain range that encircles the bay takes in the hurricane winds and then uses the same winds to push the storm back out to sea. In fact, the hurricane rate is extremely low compared to other tropical destinations.

PV has a population of about 250,000 and the community of expats living here is growing annually. It’s said that Vallarta has the largest expat population in the world, per capita. PV has become a melting pot of colorful and friendly people living in harmony from every continent on the planet.

It’s a very accessible destination, well connected by air, land and sea. This ease and connectivity has played an important role in the growth of the expat community.

With this unique combination of colonial charm, gorgeous weather, laid-back beach lifestyle near the sea, and Mexican hospitality, Puerto Vallarta has everything you could want in a retirement or vacation destination.

How Safe is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico?

Puerto Vallarta is one of the safest and friendliest cities in Mexico. A primary reason is due to the fact that it’s a tourist hub. The government goes to great lengths to secure the area and keep it safe for foreigners who are visiting or living here to assist in the economy.

As with any tourist city in the world, there can be opportunistic crime, so it’s good to take basic precautions, be attentive to your surroundings and your belongings.

Tourism is the most prominent and visible job market, but the destination also has other sectors that are flourishing. Agriculture is one of them thanks to the fertile lands of the region where banana, mango, avocado, watermelon, beans and corn are grown, among other exports.
