BEAUTIFUL BEACHES AND WATER ACTIVITIES

The Riviera Maya is known for its warm, Caribbean waters with calmly lapping waves that are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking.

In Cozumel, the island just off the shores of Playa del Carmen, lies the second largest coral reef in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef of Australia). Whether you love to scuba dive, or even simply snorkel, a world of colors will unfold beneath you, complete with various shapes and sizes of marine fauna that can be seen all year ‘round. You’ll never tire of visiting and discovering the magic that lies in each of these beaches.

MAYAN HERITAGE AND CULTURE

The Mayan heritage and culture in this area is tangible in the air, in the art, and the cuisine. It can be seen and even felt in every location you’ll visit. Near the shores of the Riviera Maya, you’ll encounter numerous archaeological sites with pyramids, ancient temples and temples and magnificent Mayan architecture.

The tallest of which lies in the archaeological zone of Cobá, located just about ninety minutes from Playa del Carmen. Cobá is also home to the last Mayan pyramid that you can still climb and tour! The pyramid is 42 meters, or 138 feet, in height with 120 stone steps - made by the ancient Mayans.

Chichén Itzá is also a must-see location. It’s by far the most famous archaeological site as well as one of the 7 wonders of the modern world, located just 2 hours from Tulum.

EXCITING ADVENTURE PARKS

The adventure parks of the Xcaret company are one of the greatest tourist attractions of the Riviera Maya. People from all over the world venture here for adrenaline adventures tucked away in nature - like flying high over the Yucatan on a zipline, exploring caves and underground rivers, or taking tours aboard amphibious vehicles, among other experiences.

They have something adventurous for all ages, interests and adrenaline levels.

MAYAN CENOTES

The world is full of rivers, but none compare to the natural wonder of the underground rivers that flow beneath the Riviera Maya. It’s estimated that there are more than 2,500 cenotes, or sinkholes, scattered throughout the Yucatan.

Cenotes are natural pools of fresh water, filled by the underground network of rivers that make up the Riviera Maya. They’re unique natural wonders of the region, many of which are open to the public for swimming, snorkeling and enjoying the fascinating surroundings both in and out of the water.

REGIONAL AND A WORLD-CLASS GASTRONOMY

The Yucatan has a vast and delicious cuisine within the Mexican gastronomy. The Mayan legacy is strong here with ingredients, dishes, and preparation techniques that have been passed down through the ages from pre-Hispanic times.

The gastronomy of the Riviera Maya is a fusion of regional dishes and international flavors. World-class and local restaurants will fill your foodie heart with incredible dining experiences.

As for regional dishes, you can’t leave without trying the cochinita pibil - the # 1 dish of Yucatecan cuisine. You can add cochinita pibil to tacos, cakes, tostadas, lime soup, the Tikin Xic fish, the black filling, the papadzules and the stuffed cheese tacos. All of them have flavors that we promise you have never tried, but that will be a feast for your palate.
